1760 | The article touches upon the problem of verbal representation of “civilization/barbarism” dichotomy in political discourse. The research aims at exploring conceptual metaphors and metonymies verbalizing the concepts which model the development of civilizations of Great Britain and the USA during the period of the First and the Second world wars. The research is based on P. Buchanan’s “Churchill, Hitler, and the Unnecessary War”. The methods employed include component, definition and conceptual types of analysis, metaphor modelling and critical discourse analysis. Complex analysis consisting of metaphor modelling, conceptual, definition and component types of analysis presents the following results: metaphor models (Civilization as Personality, Civilization as Expansivity, Civilization as Self-control, Barbarism as Degradation) verbalize the concepts of “civilization” and “barbarism” in a certain cultural-historic context. The identification of concomitant metaphors and metonymies (Great Britain as Cow, Great Britain as Great Lady, Great Britain as Debtor, Great Britain as Slattern the USA as Sheriff, Dresden etc.) verifies the data obtained. Moreover, the investigation explores the role of metonymy Great Britain is the USA as motivator for dynamic processes in discourse. The method of critical discourse analysis which considers discourse as a phenomenon constituting social practice establishes connections between discursive practice and historic events. 1761 | The paper is focused on the cognitive peculiarities of the verbless (or nominal) imperative sentences in the modern English-speaking advertising discourse. It is reported in the text that the analyzed imperative constructions are reviewed in the field of conceptual grammar which researches grammatical concepts (or cognitive images) that lie behind the linguistic signs and are reflected in grammatical forms, categories and syntactic structures. The article deals with the syntactic concepts which are represented in the language by the means of the very syntactic structures. The study is aimed at identifying and describing the mental constructs of knowledge that are verbalized in verbless one-member sentences in the English-speaking advertising slogans. They help to summarise the main idea of the advertisement to the fullest extent possible. The use of verbless constructions in the advertising texts is connected with linguistic economy and with a special effect of a nominal structures on a reader. The relevance is determined not only by the growing interest in the study of advertising discourse but by the use of the methodology of the new research paradigms. In conclusion it is noted that the factual material allowed to set up five basic syntactic concepts, verbalized in verbless one-member sentences in advertising discourse, taking into account morphological characteristic of the head element of the sentence. 1772 | Health is the main value of modern society. The priority scientific direction of the third Millennium is the development in the medical sphere to find some ways to increase the average duration of human life. The significance of health problem is due to the need to develop the effective methods of fighting the diseases against which ones the medicine is powerless. The relevance of the topic choice is due to the unflagging interest in the discourse studies in modern linguistics as well as the role of British medicine in the world and the British health system. One of the leading countries in the field of medicine is Britain, whose health system is remarkable for its flexibility and equal treatment of all patients regardless of their nationality and social class. 1777 | In the process of training primary school teachers for innovative activity it was revealed that the success was not great enough in view of the fact that they experienced a great number of difficulties. We cleared up these difficulties and the ways of overcoming them and worked out the con¬ception of training teachers for innovative activity. Analyzing the character of teachers successful education¬al work in the process of training by innovative technologies (IT) the author pays attention to studying teachers', didactic difficulties (DD), which reduce teachers', progress during their further training at innovative technologies refresher courses. Studying the character of didactic difficulties (DD) and the ways of overcoming them by means of special training becomes the basis of the author's conception of raising the effectiveness of educational process. Considering these actions to be the preliminary stage of any courses, raising the level of professional skills opens wide opportunities for raising the effectiveness in teaching new educational tech¬nologies. 1778 | The paper touches upon the new problems in theory and practice of teaching the foreign languages in conformity with modern vital conditions. In such a context it is a matter of introducing a psychological component to the educational process to be aimed at optimization of foreign training at any stage of continuous education system as well as the improvement of communication teaching level. Application of up-to-date psychotechnologies in the process of foreign training seems to be within the capacity of the foreign lan¬guage teacher, as it does not require special psychothera-peutic knowledge. The present paper appears to be an ef¬fort to observe the opportunities of using neurolinguistics programming (NLP) strategics in practice of teaching the foreign languages at a non-linguistic higher educational in¬stitution which allow the teacher to reveal the students' style and apply the methods to be the most suitable for the present student or the given group. In this interpretation the NLP approach should be consid¬ered as one of the innovatory forms of educational and out-of-lecture teacher's activities within the bounds of possible spending of time, as a stimulus to the creative potential devel¬opment of students and, first of all, not as a principal method of teaching the foreign languages but as an additional technology to improve the foreign language educational process and make it more effective, easy and pleasurable for mastering. 1792 | Numerical methods allow to circumvent the difficulties associated with lack of mathematical knowledge among the college students who are required to study physics. Using elementary numerical methods the models of various oscillating systems are built. A pendulum, a piston moving in a cylinder under the effect of pressure difference in a cylinder and a material point oscillating around the circumference under the action of elastic force, show a qualitatively different dependence between the amplitude and period of oscillations. Through the numerical solution of differential equations of the mathematical package MathCAD studied the motion of Kapitsa pendulum with a non-trivial restoring force. Construction of two - and three-dimensional graphs in MathCAD is applied to combine mutually perpendicular oscillations and obtaining Lissajous’s figures. Self-oscillating systems are presented in the form of models of the RC- oscillator with three-tier phase-shifting circuit negative feedback and the Wine’s oscillator. An example of relaxation oscillator is the model of the multivibrator on the dynistors. At the heart of a computer model of the generator on the tunnel diode is the use of current-voltage characteristics of N-type containing a section with negative resistance. 1800 | The paper outlines the relativization strategies employed by Eastern Khanty, an endangered underdescribed Finno-Ugric language spoken in Western Siberia. The notion of subordination employed here is confined mainly to morphosyntactic criteria such as clausal embedding and the use of non-finite verb-forms. The approach involves a synchronic analysis of structural patterns and functional-semantic features of relative clauses in the general functional theoretical framework. These syntactic constructions are also considered diachronically revealing the paratactic character of the Khanty complex sentences. The analysis is based on the Khanty narrative corpus, reference-grammars and dictionaries. The paper includes the analysis of morphosyntactic structures coding relative relations and other cases having different morphosyntactic manifestations, but the same underlying cognitive structure. | 923 |
