1 | Discusses the specificity of functions of the verb 'wissen' as a connotative predicate in phraseological units in the modern German language. Such constructions with 'wissen' express modal meanings (sureness, supposition, indifference, positive evaluation, negative evaluation, contradiction etc.) that are derived on the base of denotative meanings of its components as well as by certain Grammar characteristics of the constructions and depending of the context in which they are used. Such meanings are considered as derivative (precedent) meanings. Due to these meanings connotative predicates can express emotions, make an evaluation, express agreement or disagreement, draw attention and have an interactive function.
