This article deals with personal names (anthroponyms) and their structure. The most frequent structural types of anthroponyms are investigated; their semantics and functions are studies. The author makes comparisons between folklore anthroponyms (found in Russian fairy tales) and historic personal names. Thorough analysis of the above mentioned changes helps to discover the time frame of this process. Formation of official modern naming system is studied.
