LEXICOGRAPHIC DESCRIPTION OF THE CONCEPT “HOBBY” (BASED ON THE ENGLISH LANGUAGE)

The article offers a brief description of one of the most significant concepts for the English culture – “hobby”. The research of the content of the modern concept “hobby” in the English lingua-culture is based on the study of the English Dictionaries. The study also reveals the features of the formation of “hobby” as a lexical unit of the English language. At the present time English hobby is considered to be one of the types of “serious leisure” and the English concept “hobby” is getting a feature of usefulness and importance, and represents a certain model of life as pleasure, being engaged in not just a favourite routine, but necessary and useful.
