The article is devoted to the problem of such social phenomenon as orphanhood. It deals with different cultures and the developed approaches to the decision of the given problem to different historical epochs (since the most ancient times and up to now). In the article the historical experience which has been accumulated by the mankind in this point in question is analyzed.
