The article is devoted to the study of the regional identity formation process on the level of ethnic state areas of the Russian Federation in the frameworks of the issue of the ethno political and ethno social stability to be preserved. With the Republic of Khakassia (1990–2000) used as an example we identify the conditions and mechanisms of the regional identity formation and it shows how the ethnic nationhood factor affects this process.
