Gender linguistics is a new branch of Russian humanities. It is focused on the researches based on socially and culturally marked gender specificity. The aim of the given article is to view the rise and development of gender linguistics in Russia and abroad. In the article one can find main stages of gender theory, differentiation of the terms used in gender approach and also the tendencies of modern gender studies.
