Rhetorical Questions as Oblique Speech Acts.
The article deals with rhetorical questions. Which are singled out as a special kind of questions in the classification of interrogative sentences. They denote a request for information and encourage the listener to perform some physical or intellectual activity. According to the theory of speech acts, rhetorical questions are treated as oblique speech acts, i.e. their representation implies fulfilling another act.
