1 | The paper analyses the toponymic data of the fi eldnotes by G.-V. Miller collected among Narym and Ket Ostyaks in 1740. The focus of attention is on hydronymic terms. Available data allow to map the area of settlement of Selkup-speaking population in the middle part of the Trans-Ob region in the mid 18th century and make observations on this population’s localization in the watersheds of the main local rivers of Tym, Ket’, Parabel’, Chaja, and Chulym. Keywords: Selkups, Ostyaks, toponymy, hydronyms, habitat | 940 | ||||
2 | The analysis is based upon the archive of the folklore data collected by a linguist A. I. Kuzmina in the 1960s. The database includes 17 texts, which present the folklore stories of Itya widespread among the Selkups. The majority of these narratives with participation of this hero recorded by A. I. Kuzmina are previously unpublished. Their publication will dramatically extend the empirical base for the folklore and ethnohistorical studies. The plot of the stories is common to all Selkup groups. The data of A. I. Kuzmina supplement the folklore plots of the Middle Ob dialectal area (Ivankino, Tibinak, Konerovo). 5 | The article is devoted to the analysis of the plots of Selkup folklore texts with Itya and his opponent – Eater. Analytical review covers one of the identified subgroups of texts in the corpus under study. The subgroup comprises stories with the active role of the bride of the hero, who shows her magical qualities. The result of the analysis suggest that initially, these texts were not included in the narrative repertoire of Itya-tales, but were integrated by storytellers in the process of compiling this folklore series, the process which had yet not been completed by the mid-twentieth century.
