| 1 | This paper presents an investigation of the discourse markers, the analysis of which is based on the data of the magazines in Russian and English, such as FUEL, Oil and Gas, Drilling and Oil, Oil and Gas Business. The work gains currency because of the increased interest in the field of the functioning of the discourse markers – the lingual units, which play a major role in the formation of a coherent discourse. The study shows the differences in the distribution of the discourse markers in Russian and English papers on Geology, Oil and Gas Industry. It also helps to identify some of the possible reasons behind these differences, which can be both of linguistic and extralinguistic nature.
