3 | The paper outlines the types of discourse-pragmatic functions and kinds of propositional-semantic content associated with the Loc-marked Agent constructions in Eastern Khanty. Selected methodology includes contrastive morpho-syntactic and contextual analysis of the narrative corpus, attending to the information structure and linguistic meta-data. Based on discourse analysis, it is hypothesized, that a wide cognitive faculty facilitating the structuring of information and specifying the roles of the participants, governs the choice of grammatical means, i.e. the construction types. It follows from the analysis of pragmatic, semantic and grammatical features of interacting discourse participants that specific system’s grammatical resources identify with certain pragmatic-semantic properties. The Loc-Agent constructions are prototypically used to express the events with more than one argument with competing topicality. The Loc-Agent constructions (agented passive and “ergative”) manifest a parenthetical shift in centrality of the discourse referents, where a secondary topic referent is competing with the primary agentive topic. This is expressed by temporary promotion of the secondary topical referent to the Loc-marked S grammatical relation. N.V. Polyakova. 4 | The paper aims to investigate the domain of spatial relators in Eastern Khanty and the notions they serve to express. The domain of basic topological relations is represented by a class of postpositions which are more or less equivalent to prepositions in English. In the present paper we would like to approach the analysis of postpositions in Eastern Khanty within the modern grammaticization theory framework. Thus, the analysis is performed from a perspective of the evolution of postpositions out of earlier lexical forms. This involves etymology and explanation of changes in language through semantic and cognitive accounts of words. | 1035
5 | The paper outlines the endangered Siberian language documentation and description program undertaken by the department of Siberian indigenous languages of Tomsk State Pedagogical University. The project is aimed at developing the database of the endangered languages of Ob-Yenissei linguistic area and exemplifies theoretical, methodological and empirical aspects of the areal typological study of these languages, their culture and ethnography, and hypotheses of their contact interaction and mutual evolution. 6 | The paper outlines the endangered Siberian language documentation and description program undertaken by the department of Siberian indigenous languages of Tomsk State Pedagogical University. Based on the experience of the Ob-Yenissei linguistic area documentation project, particularly in documentation of the middle Ob area of Tomsk region, the main theoretical, methodological and empirical aspects of the areal study are exemplified. The discussion outlines some of factors affecting the development of local languages and cultures, assessing key hypotheses of their contact interaction and mutual evolution. 7 | The paper outlines the interface of prosodic structure and pragmatic features. In line with cross-linguistic typological generalizations, the primary function of intonation is identified as manifesting salient discourse status, signaling topic-focus discourse functions, and delineating discourse components, clauses and phrases. General correlation is identified between the pitch accent placement and the discourse pragmatic function of Focus. Pitch accent manifests the part of the proposition containing assertion, new, unrecoverable or unexpected information. Keywords: typology, prosody, pragmatics | 928
8 | The paper outlines the interface of prosodic structure and pragmatic features exemplified by the main clause-types of the endangered Eastern Khanty language of Western Siberia. In line with cross-linguistic typological generalizations, the primary function of intonation in Eastern Khanty is identified as manifesting salient discourse status, signaling topic-focus discourse functions, and delineating discourse components, clauses and phrases. In the reviewed types of Eastern Khanty clauses, general correlation is identified between the pitch accent placement and the discourse pragmatic function of Focus. Pitch accent manifests the part of the proposition containing assertion, new, unrecoverable or unexpected information. 9 | The paper outlines the main patterns of negation in the endangered Eastern Khanty dialects of Western Siberia. Eastern Khanty negation is coded primarily by the negator of two types, indicative/declarative YntY and imperative дl. In terms of the position of negative marker, Eastern Khanty shows consistent preference of preposing. Concerning the morphosyntacic symmetry of negatives, Eastern Khanty appears predominantly symmetrical, showing no morphosyntactic variation between affi rmative constructions on one hand, and negative constructions on the other, while main variations in the marking negation concern imperatives and existentials.
