| Article reveals the history of an investigation of the atmospheric electricity in Tomsk. We review first presentation of native people in Siberia about lightning, first scientific investigations of atmospheric electricity in Tomsk State University. We describe modern investigations of thunderstorm activity in Tomsk Polytechnic University and Tomsk State Pedagogical University. Keywords: atmospheric electricity, thunderstorm activity, lightning flash counters | 903
| Statistical analyses of the temporal and spatial variations of cloud-to-ground lightning (lightning discharges density, polarity of lightning strokes, peak current lightning flashes) in moderate latitudes of Northern hemisphere are introduced. The database of the investigation of more 10 million of lightning strokes in Germany covers the period 1995–2006 years. Keywords: lightning flashes, lightning discharges density, peak current lightning flashes, positive and negative lightning strokes | 862
| A comparative analysis of the thermodynamic parameters of the atmosphere, obtained by the radiosonde data of the station Novosibirsk and data of thunderstorms and heavy rains of meteorological station Ogurzovo for the summer seasons of 2000–2011 are introduced. The limits of variability and characteristics of some parameters (SHOW, CAPE, TOTL, KINX, LIFT, EQLV, LFCT) during thunderstorms and heavy rains were determined. Keywords: thunderstorm, heavy rain, thermodynamic parameters, convection in the atmosphere, intervals of variation of thermodynamic parameters | 1036
| The article presents the analysis of data of thunderstorms, heavy rains, hails for 12 weather stations in Eurasia during the summer period of 2000–2012. There were analyzed 4420 events of heavy rains, 1833 events of thunderstorms, 18 events of hail and 2 events of tornado. Investigates thermodynamic and kinematic parameters calculated from the radiosounding at 12:00 UTC (Coordinated Universal Time) at 12 stations during 2000–2012. Identifies the limits of variability and features of the thermodynamic and kinematic parameters of the atmosphere in Western Siberia during thunderstorms and heavy rains. Thermodynamic parameters of the atmosphere at the weather stations near the site, where two tornadoes were analyzed. Keywords: thunderstorm, heavy rain, hail, tornado, the thermodynamic parameters of the atmosphere, radiosonde stations of the atmosphere, cumulonimbus clouds | 867
| The article presents the analysis of recent data on the global distribution of thunderstorm activity obtained from satellites and ground-based lightning detection systems, as well as the World’s Meteorological stations network. Gravity anomalies are considered as additional reasons for the spatial distribution of thunderstorm activity over the Globe. Analyzes maps of lightning discharges density, and maps of Earth’s gravity field anomalies obtained by NASA satellites. It is shown that the vast global centers of thunderstorm activity in central Africa and South America are associated with areas of slight negative gravity anomalies. An exception is the world thunderstorm outbreak in the region of Indonesia and the Philippines, which is located above the intense positive gravity anomaly. Regional analysis in Central Europe showed the presence of thunderstorm cells over the negative gravity anomalies. Keywords: thunderstorm, lightning discharges density, gravity field of the Earth, Earth’s gravity field anomalies | 831
| The article deals with the features of teaching of meteorology and hydrology to the students of geography at Tomsk state pedagogical university. It demonstrates the results of the study of major difficulties for the students during the study of meteorology and hydrology. The article presents the examples of realization of remote technologies MOODLE (Modular Object Oriented Digital Learning Environment) for training of the subject “Modern problems of hydrometeorology” for masters. The article shows that the best development of spatial thinking of students occurs during the analysis of the climatic maps. If the student chooses a theme, then the project activity is more effective. Describes the test results of students-geographers in the assessment of current and residual knowledge in meteorology and hydrology. Educational field practice, including tours to the meteorological station, is considered as a necessary activity for the successful mastering of meteorology and hydrology. For effective studying of meteorology and hydrology students need to carry out measurements using various meteorological instruments. For investigation of water quality in small rivers of Tomsk region the field laboratories are used. The results of students’ research during the training practices are widely used for writing articles and bachelor’s final work. The article presents didactic recommendations for teachers starting to teach meteorology and hydrology at the pedagogical universities. Keywords: meteorology, climatology, hydrology, interdisciplinary communication, spatial thinking, professional competence, higher education | 886 |
