The article studies ways to enlarge vocabulary in variously structured languages, such as French, English, Russian, German, etc. The lexico-semantic group of colour can be enlarged by various means, such as word formation, transposition, compound word formation, comparative constructions, word combinations with the word “colour” and borrowings.
