2 | The paper suggests an etymological analysis of the proper names of heroes – characters of “heroes’ songs”, and mythological and folklore images. As it was found out the nominative units origin from stems meaning “magic, sorcery”, “witchcraft”, “fortunetelling”. The names, in their turn, form a semantic base for verbs meaning “beat”, “knock, whack”, “crush”, “twist, screw”, “roll”, i.e. – verbs denoting heavy physical impact onto the subject. The harder the applied effort is, the more malicious is the mythic character. The analysis of names of mythic ancestors, good and wicked spirits, sorcerers, magicians and wizards showed that they are widely represented in the system of nomination and in the system of word building of the Selkup language. | 999 | ||||
3 | The article deals with the problem of the numeral «one» and its functioning in the Khanty language dialects. The Khanty numeral «one» (western ij /eastern Щj) could have been formed out of Finno-Ugrian stem *ike, *ьke and originally meant «unity». The differences in the sound shape of the numeral «one» in the Khanty language are determined, on the one hand, by dialectal phonetic varieties, and on the other – by its functional peculiarities, i.e. whether it performs attributive or non-attributive functions. | 1158 | ||||
4 | The article is devoted to the concept of intelligence in the linguistic space of the Selkup language within the linguistic theory of field. The structure of the field includes the nuclear, the close periphery, the periphery and the far periphery. The criterion of elements’ selection into the field is the general differentiating semantic indication. The position of this one in the structure of word’s meaning defines the place of the element in the field. The fields have no clear lines and cross each other in different flats. | 968 | ||||
5 | Some events occurred during different stages of the development of Selkup ethnos are viewed in the article. The dichotomy up//down is on the basis of the global image of the world. Etymological analysis of the components of the coordinating compound words affords to reconstruct the initial meaning of the ethnicon. Analysis data showed that the dual structure of the ethnos finds its expression in the language on the deepest level - on the semantic level. Within every area dialect there are ‘the upper’ and ‘the lower’ Selkups. | 1141 | ||||
6 | In the article the regularity of semantic derivations and origin of such category of words as adjectives, negative particles, pronouns, and postpositions in Selkup are given. The research is based on the names of mythic ancestors worshiped by the members of the Selkup nation. Morphemic division of the lexemes let define their possible initial meaning. Reconstruction of the fragments of mythic worldview shows the way of formation of the Selkup world perception and its reflection in the language. The inner organization of the ethnos is based on cult objects. Tribal self-designations are connected with them. 8 | In the article the connection of names of Selkup kins with names of mythical ancestors is presented. It is found out that a name of a mythical ancestor becomes a centre of a semantic group of words to the extent of which semantic derivations occur. The connection of a kin with its mythical ancestor is kept; by means of the name of a kin it is given to a representative of a flora or fauna and continues its existence as a totem. 9 | In the article the rendering of the possible way of pronominal system formation in the Selkup language is offered. Interrogative pronouns were historically the names of mythical ancestors. Tabooing of the names caused the use of allegories in form of interrogative, indefi nite, negative pronouns. The substitutes of the names became the key elements of word formation: kaj “duck” (totem); kaj “who”, “what”, “what”; kajdo “why”, “what for”; kajne “nothing”. 10 | The article is devoted to the cultural and linguistic analysis of Selkup somatic vocabulary which consists of the words denoting eye parts (a pupil, an eyeball) or face parts connected with an eye (an eyelid, an eyebrow, an eyelash), and denomination of somatic word tear. The vocabulary under consideration includes general, for the given number of lexemes, components: saj ~ Зaj ‘an eye’. 11 | In the article some ways of semantic derivations due to which Selkup basic vocabulary formed and developed are presented. Abstract notions replace concrete symbols specific for mythological thinking. The period of grammaticalization of concrete meanings ended in change of content words into connective and substitutive ones.
